2. How does it fit with Compass’ core beliefs of equality, solidarity, democracy, freedom, sustainability and well being?
Address the real needs of people rather continuing with the sorry excuse of a National Health Service. Care provision should not depend on a begging bowl but a sensitive humane society that recognizes health issues are within the community not in limited Health structures. For years things like drug support and hospice support has depended on voluntary provision because the government fails to address it. The time is ripe for change, there is hardly a person in the land who is not affected. Unite resources and skills, reduce costs and really care and support.
3. How does it build the institutions of social democracy, like social groups and collective and cooperative forms of ownership and control?
Unites disperate groups and services into a social service which is about real people and real problems. It will use taxes in a different way rather than depending on individual effort it will be a concerted united effort.People will be able to see their taxers being used for common good in a public way rather than a hidden way. It will take away petty interference and move care provision into the 21st century
4. How much will it cost or raise and where will any cost come from?
It will use existing funding in a more effective way. The real cost is hidden within families in poverty and struggling with basic health issues. The savings will show in reduced National Health Service costs.
5. Which groups in the electorate are likely to support or oppose this measure? Is there any polling evidence you have on this?
All humane enlightened citizens will support it. All organisations currently involved will support the change if recognition follows and it is delivered.
6. Is there a place or country where it’s worked? Please provide some information.
Not known but it is likely Scandinavia is the nearest likely area with this type of idea in place.
7. What are the three main arguments in favour/against it?
Improved service
Addressing the real care needs
Reduced costs
Too radical
Society will not cope with the shifting demand
How will the sector be defined
