2. How does it fit with Compass’ core beliefs of equality, solidarity, democracy, freedom, sustainability and well being?
Chief rent is a disgaceful ananchronism requiring freehold homeowners to pay an annual fee to the former land owner.
3. How does it build the institutions of social democracy, like social groups and collective and cooperative forms of ownership and control?
Challenges historical and feudal/aristocratic land ownership.
4. How much will it cost or raise and where will any cost come from?
Little cost. Potential significant revenues if taxed.
5. Which groups in the electorate are likely to support or oppose this measure? Is there any polling evidence you have on this?
Homeowners
6. Is there a place or country where it’s worked? Please provide some information.
Not known
7. What are the three main arguments in favour/against it?
Chief rent is immoral, anachronistic

This should go but the best way to deal with this is to introduce a 100% land value tax on ALL sites - not just a few freehold sites.
A hundred years ago Lloyd George introduced “The Peoples Budget 1909″ to restore the land wealth to the people with a land tax. Even Churchill supported it and called landowners “parasites”!The House of Lords emasculated it.
Let’s finish the business now.

I totally agree.
Why should we have to pay to live on a piece of land w ehave already paid for?
Chief rent is outdated, unfair and should be scrapped by parliamnet.
Its a hoorible little corner of the law that should be eliminated in the 21 st century
