Thank you for everyone that took the time to submit ideas, to comment and to vote. This was a year long groundbreaking ideas gathering exercise with over 200 policies submitted to our policy competition website. We had a broad and varied set of submissions that demonstrated the originality of thought and vitality that comes from grassroots engagement.
The radicalism of the submissions were in stark contrast to the stale and insular ideas emanating from Westminster.
These will now form the campaigning priorities for Compass in the upcoming months. We will pick up on these ideas over the next year and incorporate them into our campaigning, in our calls for real change and in our alternative manifesto for the next election.
The winning results were announced at the No Turning Back conference and are as follows:
Democracy:
- A referendum on the voting system on the same day as the next general election
- Democratise the House of Lords
- Electoral reform of both Houses of Parliament
Equality:
Liberty:
- A written constitution with a bill of rights and electoral reform
- Habeas corpus for everybody - no exceptions
- Scrap I.D cards
Solidarity:
- Abolish our tax havens
- Give priority to distribution rather than growth
- Universal early years education and care
Sustainability:
- A windfall tax on energy profits for social and environmental justice
- Annual targets for carbon emissions
- Council housing for the 21st century
Wellbeing:
- Compulsory occupational pension scheme with employer and employee contributions
- No Trident replacement
- Work towards the closure of all tax havens
Miscellaneous:
- Media ownership matters
- Renewing Britain's railway network
- Student funding: equitable and sustainable
